The online coding club where your child builds their own games

Where gamers become game makers

One hour a week, live. Same day, same time, the same mentor and the same group of children every week, so your child is not starting again with strangers each time.

For children aged 6 to 16, from complete beginners upwards. Mentors are STEM-certified, DBS-checked and trained in supporting neurodivergent children.

No joining fee, no minimum term, cancel any time. The taster is free and needs no card.

"It's the highlight of his week."

What's included

  • A new game every week. Something to build and hack that they have not made before.
  • Seasonal Game Jams. The whole club builds to one theme, then everyone plays what the others made.
  • Support between sessions. Mentors answer by text and video message during the week, not just in the hour.
  • Daytime and evening slots. Pick the hour that fits around school, and tell us if it stops working.
  • Miss a week? We move you. Let us know and we will book your child into another slot that week. Nothing is lost, and there is nothing to catch up.
  • Never more than six children. Grouped by age and stage, so your child is with others at a similar point.
  • The same mentor every week. Someone who remembers what your child built last time, and how they like to work.
  • Minecraft Mod Worlds. Their own worlds to mod with real code, included at no extra cost.

They level up as they go

Each level is a real step, not a sticker, and each one earns a STEM-certified certificate. In the Club most children complete Hacker and start on Modder.

Coding is for everyone

Supporting every learner it's kind of our thing

We hold the National Autistic Society’s Autism Inclusion Award, and a large share of our members are neurodivergent. Our mentors are trained to create an inclusive, patient environment where children with ADHD, autism, anxiety, or diverse learning needs truly thrive.

Everything you need to know

Technical requirements

A computer or laptop (Windows, Mac or Chromebook), reliable internet, webcam and microphone. A phone or tablet works for the live session video too.

Commitment and flexibility

Monthly rolling membership, no minimum term, cancel any time. Miss a session and Academy access keeps the weekly game and mentor messages coming, so it is easy to pick back up.

Starting from scratch?

No coding experience needed. Our mentors start complete beginners off with visual drag-and-drop coding before gradually introducing text-based languages when your child is ready.

After your free session

We send a personalised video of how your child got on, then give you a call to discuss their progress and book their regular club for the following week.

FAQ

We're here to help!
A decent internet connection, a laptop/desktop computer and access to a browser like Chrome to use The Code Zone Online platform. We're currently working on better supporting mobile and tablet devices, so for now you need a device that has a screen width of 12.9" or larger.
No, they won't get bored. We encourage more advanced coders to 'hack' our challenges. We want them to create something new that matters to them and stretches their creativity and coding abilities.
Yes, your child's safety is of paramount importance to us and we want to build a safe online community for young people. All of our mentors have enhanced DBS checks and our platform is fully secure with enhanced security features. All lobby chats and social sharing between participants is moderated by our mentors.
If you want to find out more about a specific mentor before your taster session, meet the mentor team!
Yes, our challenges are designed to be scalable for all skill levels and abilities. If your child is new to coding, let us know and your child's Mentor will help them begin their coding journey!

However you use The Code Zone, there is always help at hand! Use the "Message a Mentor" button to ask questions and one of our STEM-Certified Mentors will help you out!
Game Dev Club sessions are 1 hour long and occur once a week. Before committing, you can try out one of our free taster sessions to see if our clubs are right for you! Taster sessions include an additional 15 minute introduction so that your child can meet their mentor on a 1-to-1 basis before any other members join.
Our mentors support our members in a variety of different ways. Clubs have a limit of 6 members to a session which means that every child has the opportunity to ask questions, show off their games, and develop lifelong coding skills. Members continue to have access to our games outside of their regular club time and can message their mentor via the chat box so they can continue to access support whenever coding inspiration strikes!
No worries at all! When your child misses a scheduled club session, they automatically get access to our Game Dev Academy. This means they can access the game project from the week they missed, work through it at their own pace, and get full support from our academy mentors via text and video messages. They won't fall
behind - they'll have everything they need to catch up before the next live session.

Whether it's a single missed session, a family holiday, or an unexpected schedule change, your child can continue working towards their coding awards and stay on track with their group. When they return to their next live club, they'll slot right back in without missing a beat. Life happens, and we've got you covered!
