Anti Bullying Week 2025

It’s anti-bullying week, and we thought that we here at The Code Zone take some time to tell you about the ways in which we make sure our clubs are a fun, safe space for all!

What is bullying?

But first… What is bullying? The Anti-Bullying Alliance (ABA) defines bullying as “The repetitive, intentional hurting of one person or group by another person or group, where the relationship involves an imbalance of power. Bullying can be physical, verbal or psychological. It can happen face-to-face or online.”

How does The Code Zone keep kids safe online?

So… how do we work to ensure that never happens? Well the first way is the way we handle out of club interactions. Unless permission is granted from both sets of parents/guardians (and children) our members will only be able to interact with each other during session times, monitored by our mentors who are trained to pick up on signs of bullying at high speed!

Our mentors are great at picking up on things that can be seen as bullying and taking them as teaching moments to explain how they might be hurtful to others. Often younger people don’t realise the impact some of these things have.

We also make sure that each of our members knows about how to stay safe online! We explain the importance of not sharing usernames/personal information with people we don't know to keep them away from people who would do harm to them. So not only do they get awesome coding knowledge, they also understand how to stay safe online!
